He
joined to a group of men from Chicago called Bussiness Circle.
His
name is Melvin Jones and he was born in Fort-Thomas, Arizona, USA, on
January 13th. 1870.
In
1916 Secretary Jones proposed that this Bussiness Circle should look
throughout the Nation, other clubs which were interested in forming a
national asociation, and he wondered What would happen if these men who
were succesfull because of their impulse, intelligence and aspirations,
were gather to work for the benefits of their communities?
The
board of directors approved the proposal and for more than a year he kept
mail contact with clubs from all over the country.
The
reponses are very mucha encouraging, even one fron a dorctor, Dr. William
P . Woods from Evansville, Indiana, Who shortly aferwards becames the
First President of the International Lions.
To
the end of May 1917, Jones was ready to come in action and he called for a
Board summoning for june 7Th. In Chicago.
The
Delegates who came from all over the country, were gathered in the East
Saloon in La Salle Hotel, that Thursday afternoon.
The
deliberations took place and a lively discussion arose about the new
agrupation name, nevertheless they all agreed that a new national
agrupation should be formed.
When
the Boad Summoning closed, leonism was born and its first national
assembly had been summoned for october, 8Th. In Adolphus Hotel, Dallas,
Texas, in which representatives from 22 Lions Clubs participated.
That
was not only a natinal assembly, but also a great step, because a new
concept of humanism and uninterested service was launched.
The
Rules abd Regulations were adopted , as well as the colors of the
institution were established and the Objectives and the Ethic Code were
written down.
